Local Area Planning & Marine Spatial Planning

The Focus Group has been involved in the development of a range of non-statutory documents, including for example:

  • Draft Regional Marine Strategy (2012), prepared for the Waikato Regional Council.  This strategy sets out the direction for Council in managing the marine area, in a collaborative manner.  It is a part of the overall marine spatial planning work that is currently being undertaken by the Council.
  • Rena: Long-term Environmental Recovery Plan (2011), prepared for the NZ Government, and as a member of the team preparing this document.  This plan identifies the environmental issues, actions required and responsibilities. http://www.mfe.govt.nz/issues/rena-recovery/index.html
  • Port and Harbour Safety Plan (2011), reviewed and updated this plan for the Waikato Regional Council. This plan identifies risks in key harbours and sets out systems to be followed to reduce or eliminate the risks.
  • Algies Bay Coastal Compartment Management Plan (2006), prepared for the Rodney District Council and the Auckland Regional Council.  This plan identified a series of actions that were to be addressed over time in order to holistically address key issues facing the community along this beach.
  • Coromandel Peninsula Blueprint (2009): drafting and editing of public Coromandel Peninsula Blueprint report.  The Coromandel Peninsula Blueprint document was the outcome of an extensive cooperative project, and summarised large volumes of technical data and presented and range of community outcomes and provided direction for managing change, growth and sustainable development on the Peninsula.
